Ron Paul on the Morton Downey Jr. Show circa 1988

Ron Paul as a guest on the Morton Downey Jr. Show

I know it's hard to believe, kids, but at one time conservatives were cool.  Or at least some of them were.  Back in the 80's at the end of the Reagan era, America was in pretty decent shape.  I know the hardcore liberals will argue and say "Uhh. NO it wasn't!"...But honestly, if you are old enough to remember...compared to the problems facing the U.S. today, the 80's were practically a golden era of peace and prosperity.  So, if you watch the following video, put things in the perspective that many conservatives of that time would be moderates in today's political climate.  In the late 80's, Morton Downey Jr. was painted as a right wing nut-job by many liberal voices in the media, and those who did not like him labeled his program as "trash television."  But the most of the views he expresses in this vid would be considered "establishment" viewpoints today, and this type of a high brow conversation, minus the yelling, reminds one more of what you would see on CSPAN when compared with modern day reality "trash" tv.

In retrospect, it's interesting to see that at that time many people were optimistic enough to believe the "war on drugs" could actually be won.  I don't know if Ron Paul's ideas are 100% the right course... but almost 25 years later, it is obvious a new approach is needed.

And on that note, I will leave you for today...

Once again, God bless you all, and thank you for your support.

  1. I clearly remember the debate on Larry King between Ron Paul and Stephen Baldwin on drug use.

Obviously Stephen was going to be against recreational drugs use. But who is to argue against a former doctor who has a lengthy medical background and studied his shite very well?

IMO, I wouldn't mess with Ron Paul.

  2. I didn't realise I was a hardcore liberal?

But the end of the 80's were very bad for people... they were just good for people middle class and up. Farmers, manufactures, teachers and other people who get underpaid had a hard go at it. Thats why well off people remember it as good times and people just getting by remeber it as the time when just getting by got harder.

  8. I was too coked up in the 80s to remember anything. Actually, I do recall seeing Madonna dry hump the stage when she performed on the MTV awards. Was that the 80s?
