Cosmos: A cosmic journey with Carl Sagan and Jimmy Fungus

Perhaps one of the greatest shows ever in the history of human mass communication media is "Cosmos" starring astronomer Carl Sagan, based on his book of the same name.  This show was so good, watching it was almost like having a spiritual experience...

"We are made of star stuff"...and when I started jimmyfungus.com,..I admit I kinda wanted it to be the kind of experience Carl Sagan envisioned for his own show in this very first episode of Cosmos...kind of a cosmic journey....

...Jimmy Fungus,...online journalist,... a man barely alive...traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. The shadowy flight into the world of a man who does not exist. James Fungus, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the helpless, the powerless... in a world of criminals who operate ABOVE the law. If you have a problem, and no one else can help, and if you can find him.. Jimmy Fungus can be that man. Better than he was before...better, stronger, faster. Next stop, jimmyfungus.com !

Ok, well if that whole schpeel  sounded familiar, it's because I just combined the intros of The Six Million Dollar Man, the Twilight Zone,  Knight Rider, and the A-Team (famous television programs not as good as Cosmos).

the brilliant mind of Carl Sagan at work

Now..take my hand, and join me as we go on this cosmic journey through the blogosphere...

This is Jimmy Fungus signing off for today.

Once again God bless you, and thank you for your support.

Ron Paul on the Morton Downey Jr. Show circa 1988

Ron Paul as a guest on the Morton Downey Jr. Show

I know it's hard to believe, kids, but at one time conservatives were cool.  Or at least some of them were.  Back in the 80's at the end of the Reagan era, America was in pretty decent shape.  I know the hardcore liberals will argue and say "Uhh. NO it wasn't!"...But honestly, if you are old enough to remember...compared to the problems facing the U.S. today, the 80's were practically a golden era of peace and prosperity.  So, if you watch the following video, put things in the perspective that many conservatives of that time would be moderates in today's political climate.  In the late 80's, Morton Downey Jr. was painted as a right wing nut-job by many liberal voices in the media, and those who did not like him labeled his program as "trash television."  But the most of the views he expresses in this vid would be considered "establishment" viewpoints today, and this type of a high brow conversation, minus the yelling, reminds one more of what you would see on CSPAN when compared with modern day reality "trash" tv.

In retrospect, it's interesting to see that at that time many people were optimistic enough to believe the "war on drugs" could actually be won.  I don't know if Ron Paul's ideas are 100% the right course... but almost 25 years later, it is obvious a new approach is needed.

And on that note, I will leave you for today...

Once again, God bless you all, and thank you for your support.

I Got Tagged Again (Dammit with a capital D!), and my FIRST GIF EVER

Boxxy:  "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"

Well, dang it, I got tagged again.... I was already tagged and have dodged some previous taggings but Aysh of http://ohmeowmeowoh.blogspot.com/ tagged me, and obeyed all the rules (except the one about not tagging people that have already been tagged), and seemed excited about it and everything...so alright CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!! BTW, what you see up there is the first gif I have ever made... So, this is a momentous occasion indeed.

Ok, I am not gonna post the rules again..and nobody wants to hear 11 random things about me...So, I will just answer the questions...  Here we go...

  1. If you could change one thing about yourself physically, what would you change? I would like to be physically stronger...mainly for self defense purposes.
  2. If you had to choose one song to listen to everyday for the rest of your life, what would it be? "Harmony" by Elton John
  3. If a wizard randomly appeared, and offered you the gift of immortality, would you take it and why? I realized the other day while writing my article about the existence of God, that I had lost all desire to live for eternity. I will just be thankful to make it through the rest of this life honestly. So God can no longer hang that "I won't let you into heaven" thing over my head anymore. Though I suppose He can still hang the "I'm sending you to hell forever" thing over my head.
  4. If you could be one character from a book/comic/movie, who would you be? Superman
  5. Red lorry or Yellow lorry? Wat?
  6. What's your favourite type of food (curry, chinese, italian etc.) All food is fine with me.
  7. Are some people born evil, or is it a learnt behaviour? I don't know. If Hitler hadn't had a really hard life, I think he probably just would have been a huge jerk, instead of the most evil guy who ever lived. Environment exacerbates the problem I think.
  8. Who is your hero? Why? Anyone who puts others before themselves is a hero. We seldom hear about them, because they are very humble, so I don't really know any names here.
  9. What was your favourite subject in school? History
  10. Do you think animals have consciousness like we humans do? Do they have a sense of selfhood, and are they aware of their feelings and experiences? I hope not, because then it is kinda mean to eat them.
  11. Do you believe Aliens? I will refer you to Ancient Aliens expert Giorgio A. Tsoukalos on that one.

Alright kids...I'm gonna call it a day. Remember to keep your feet on the ground...and keep reaching for the stars...

    Or something like that.

Rebecca Black snub at Grammys called "Travesty!", "Outrage!"

    the real life Eric Cartman

Welllll, once again the Grammys screwed it up. They gave more awards to that Adele chick than she could possibly carry, but absolutely nothing to the most influential artist of our time R.B. Rebecca Black.

What is the world coming to when Rebecca Black can't be given a simple honor to reward her for all the happiness she has brought to so many gazillions of people worldwide??

    It is a....

    TRAVESTY!!

    AN OUTRAGE!!!!

WHO is calling it that?  Well, me.  How could Rebecca Black not win a Grammy??????????

my face when I realize Rebecca Black wasn't even nominated

This one's for you Grammys committee...

    THE END

Does God Exist?: Mysteries of the Universe Unraveled (Episode No. well whatever episode number it is)

Hello again, true believers.  It is time again for another lovely episode of "Mysteries of the Universe Unraveled."  I thought I would fire off this very important entry while I still have my mojo, and then I will respond to your comments, questions, videos, letters, e-mails, voicemails, text messages, and all other such communications.

Today we will be tackling the question: "Does God exist?" and instead of me giving my opinion, I will supply you with the views and commentaries of some well known, and others not so well known philosophers across the internets.  So, how did I pick these particular videos?  I was feeling kind of tired and depressed when I wrote this, so I discussed various factors in my brain like..."I hope this video is not too long, because I don't feel like watching a really long video right now."  and  "Will people actually find this information beneficial and life enriching?"

Ok, then...  Let's learn a little bit more.  On with our mini-parade of interweb philosphers and thought makers...

    The Amazing Atheist

It was like 4 in the morning when I was watching this...so I am not sure I exactly understand what theAmazingAtheist is talking about here, but I am assured that it is one of his most amazing oratorical performances of all time...so I hope you find some value here, even if you do not wholeheartedly agree with what he says.

    Kabane the Christian

KabanetheChristian is perhaps the most competent spokesman for Christianity on all of the internets, because he combines the unusual qualities of being both intelligent, and not nuts. This video isn't one of his finest moments, but if you check him out on youtube, he makes some good arguments.

    ONISION

One thing that I have learned in my studies, is that trashing God, or belief in God is a very good way to pick up chicks. I have not done any field research on this, but I think you might also need cool hair, or maybe need to paint your finger nails black, or something in that vein, before you try this. I don't think that is the reason Greg Onision came to his views on God and religion, but he certainly has a large young female fan base to show for his efforts. Anywho, I suppose he makes some decent arguments. I don't know if he could quite go toe to toe with Kabane the Chrisitan in a debate...at least not without strangling him at some point...but he makes some decent arguments.

    The Bdonksi

The Bdonski asks us "The Late Night Question"...and things are about to get intense. Also, I think he is Lisa Nova's brother if that means anything to you.

    Lord Picklejar

This first installment in the Great Lectures in Evil series, is essential viewing as far as I'm concerned...so, if you are too damn lazy to watch any of these other videos, I strongly recommend you watch this one.

    Chris Humphrey

I am being completely serious when I say that not since Christ walked the earth has someone given a more succint, or compelling explanation of how to live a good life, and make the world a better place, than Chris Humphrey in his video "People's lives are the important thing."

    Daxflame

I include this video mainly because Dax was so good at teaching me things I did not know, and also so I had an excuse to repost this...

Well, I suppose I will just leave it at that, and let others draw their own conclusions.  I hope you found this entry helpful...and if it was too information packed..well, just bookmark it, and come back some other time in the future when your brain cools down.  Once again, thank you dear friends.  Courage!

Happy Valentine's Day: Brief Belated Valentine's Day post, and Boxxy makes a new video

As you know I HATE Valentine's Day (how would you know that???)....No, actually I don't hate Valentine's Day at all, it is no more miserable than any other day for me.  But yes, I like to think of this blog as my love letter to the world, so world, today I write to you...and here is my Valentine's wish for you...
Ralph "If girls were boogers" made by an unknown genius

And I suppose there was some good news on this evil day. Boxxy made a new video...a V-day tribute to her best friend Pocky.

"Tebowie" Video by Jimmy Fallon: The Only Surviving Version Allowed on the Internets

    The real life Eric Cartman

Do you all remember my article on "Tebowie" by Jimmy Fallon?  What!!??  No!!!  Well, whatever...that's not important right now.  Here's what is.  NBC has pulled the Tebowie video down from their website, and scrubbed it from almost every place on all of the internets...  This despite the fact it was a big viral video hit.  The only surviving version is the one below, which only survives because the quality is so poor it is protected by the fair use rule of copyright law...but if you just desperately need to get get your Tebowie fix click on the pic/link below:

    click it

You can imagine how I felt when I first discovered the "Tebowie" video was gone about a week or so ago.  I remember when Rebecca Black's "Friday" was briefly pulled off the internets... the only way I got through that day was by making homemade prozac, out of peanut butter, ground up excedrin, and diet dr. pepper, and listening to my Leo Sayer records while sobbing uncontrollably.

I really don't understand NBC's line of thinking.  The video was a big viral hit...and because of the lyrics it would only be truly relevant up until this year's Super Bowl.  By pulling it down they were denying NBC, and Jimmy Fallon millions of dollars of free advertising.  Is their rationale that people who just need to hear "Tebowie" are going to go out and buy the box set of all of two hundred and how many ever episodes of the Jimmy Fallon show to hear it?  I don't know, but this kinda crap gives you just a slight taste of what life would be like under laws like SOPA and PIPA, and other similar legislation. ...  a true nightmare!

    A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A NIGHT MARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OH GOD WHY?

Jimmy Fungus is Tagged, PLUS...first ever episode of GREAT UNDISCOVERED GENIUSES OF MANKIND

    coppercab,...just because
Oh sweet Jesus in a dump truck, it appears I've been "tagged."  Well, I guess it's kind of an honor.  Only like jury duty, but the fun kind...whatever that means.  Ok, here is who done it...dopdavid ,  in this entry here !Common Sense(An Anarchists Diary!): On a lighter note, 11 questions tag in this blog here !Common Sense(An Anarchists Diary!) .

The first time I ever heard of this "tagging" concept was about 4 years ago (yes, before most of you reading this now were even born) at a little site called youtube....anyone heard of it?  Anywho, this helps me tie in nicely the subject of our first ever episode of...

     GREAT UNDISCOVERED GENIUSES OF MANKIND

Today's GREAT UNDISCOVERED GENIUS OF MANKIND is Lord Picklejar a "profound horror", "one of the most ancient and terrible demons of Hell" who is responsible for the invention of youtube, and created most of the internets for that matter.  Some poor misguided soul made the mistake of "tagging" him back in 2008.  Here is his furious response:

Long story short, Lord Picklejar is a true mastermind of the highest order, an absolute genius of the utmost caliber...  he is suffice it to say....

    "Brilliant!"

Lest you think I forgot...oh yeah...I was tagged...ok,ok,ok...  the good thing about being tagged is it is like the chicken pox, once you get tagged you can't get tagged again...ok, so no one else gets to tag me now!

    The rules are:

    1. Put the rules of this Tag on your blog.
    2. Everyone tagged should tell 11 things about themselves, answer the 11 questions asked by the person who tagged you, tag 11 other people and ask them 11 different questions.
    3. Let the people whom you tagged know you've done so.
    4. Don't tag anyone who's been tagged before.
    5. Really do tag 11 others, and don't go all "if you want to, take this tag".

So now I have to say 11 random things about me?

     2.  I can't get through a single day of my life without excedrin migraine tablets.
     3.  I eat at Taco Bell a lot.

    10.  Paul McCartney is my favorite member of the Beatles.
    11. I used to be a diehard Cubs fan, but now I don't really care anymore.

And here are the 11 questions I am supposed to answer:

    1. black, white, red, blue, or yellow? black
    2. cigarette or joint?  Jesus told me He doesn't want me to smoke.
    3. beers or bottle?  Jesus said I can only drink on New Year's Eve, and then ONLY if I have the night off from work, which never happens.
    4. which is most important: sex, money, or power? Well, you need money to live...but if you have power, then you can obviously get money..so power, I guess.
    5. how many pairs of shoes do you own?  3
    6. PC or mac?  PC
    7. sour or sweet? sour, duhh!
    8. in 3 words describe politics  Moe, Larry, Curly
    9. picking your favorite music is like politics, its all shit, you just have to find the pile that stinks the least, true or true? false
    10. true?  wat?
    11. if you could own any type of animal, what would it be and why?  a sloth, it is my best shot at meeting Kristen Bell

Ok, now I have to "tag" some people:

     1.  DaxFlame
     2.  Boxxy Wayne
     3.  Giorgio Tsoukalos
     4.  Harold Camping
     5.  Rebecca Black
     6.  Lady Gaga
     7.  Rachel Halvorson
     8.  Jesus
     9.  Jennifer Dusik
    10.  Lauren Poblador
    11.  Richard Jandura

Mysterious Thoughts of the Day with Giorgio A. Tsoukalos

Well, if you are anything like me, you start your day by rolling out of bed.... or more like rolling around on the floor you sleep on, and say to yourself, "I wonder what the hell leading ancient mysteries expert Giorgio A. Tsoukalos has been up to."  It is for this reason that today I am starting an entirely new, and very exciting segment called...

MYSTERIOUS THOUGHTS OF THE DAY WITH GIORGIO TSOUKALOS

Ok, kids, well that is enough of an explanation...just watch this vid, and then we shall discuss what we have learned...

      So, to summarize...

In ancient times we were visited by... aliens.

The human race learned mathematics, astronomy, and agriculture from... aliens.

      Electricity was invented by... aliens.

The ancient pyramids were built by...aliens.

And for you any of you, naysayers, and doubting Thomases who can't handle this just remember,
"The only way the ancient astronaut theory can be disproven is when the extraterrestrials show up and say, 'we were never here in the past.'" Giorgio A. Tsoukalos.

Ok, well that will end another exciting trek through the blogosphere. As always God bless you, and aliens.

Rumors of Adam Lambert being Queen's New Lead Singer are FALSE!

Boxxy vs. Queen, and Freddie Mercury

Yesterday, the internet was abuzz with reports that Adam Lambert was the new lead singer of the legendary rock group Queen.  Well, long story short,...it seems that was totally untrue...at best Lambert will join Queen for some performances.
"Oooh them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context.... I haven't confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMA'S. That being said, I'm truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions mr journalist!! :)" Adam Lambert.  SEE:Adam Lambert Addresses Queen Rumors on Twitter - The Hollywood Reporter

Sadly, it appears that once again the massive corporate celebrity industrial complex mainstream media machine massively screwed things up.

      Bob Dylan "Fail"

As Dylan would say, "Nice job, guys!"

Well, that will end today's brief trek through the blogosphere. Once again God bless you, and thank you for your support.

"Follow Your Heart" Above the Influence

Well, this little anti-drug video from abovetheinfluence's youtube channel caught my attention not so much because of the video, but for the nifty little song that provides the soundtrack. As far as I am able to make out the lyrics, they are "I'm thinkin' 'bout tommorrow...and I wonder how I feel...on my way, where i'm going...you'll get right where you're goin'...where you're goin' now...oooh ooooh.."

Anyway, apparently, this is an original song produced exclusively for the commercial...so, as of yet, it seems there is no full length version available, unfortunately. Here is the vid, kids:
